Contact

I am contactable by email on admin@thesuffolkpsychologist.co.uk. I work across various spaces and so am not always immediately available but I will endeavours to respond as soon as I’m able to.

Initial contact and ongoing sessions

I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation via telephone . This is a brief informal chat to find out what you're looking for, whether I can be helpful, and for us to see whether we are a good fit before we move on to booking an assessment session.

If you're happy to go forward, our first session is a 75 minute space where we spend time thinking about you, your needs and what the best support and next steps might be. At the end of the session, you can decide whether you'd like to continue our work together.

Our work together often looks like weekly 50-minute sessions, either in person or via video, where we continue our thinking about you and start to take steps toward change. Sometimes, the frequency of this space varies, depending on your individual needs and goals. The length of therapy can vary too, from person to person, and so we can think together about what might work best and we will keep this under regular review as needed.

You can end the work at any time; it can be helpful to plan this a little if possible so we have a well rounded experience of the ending.

If you don’t attend the start of a session as planned, I will send you a reminder email during your session time. If you are available, we can start the session late, but we will always finish at the planned end time. If you don’t attend a session at all, and haven’t been in contact, I will send you an email reminding you of any balance due and our next session date.

Working online

Having sessions via video can be convenient and support fitting therapy into lives that can be demanding and time poor. However, it can also be tricky to build relationships in the same way and we have some logistics to navigate!

Please treat your online session as any other therapy session:

  • Be ready on time – allow time for logging in, software updates etc.

  • •Find a quiet place where you will be comfortable, alone and undisturbed.

  • Please do not attend under the influence of alcohol or any other substances.

  • If there are any technical glitches with the video platform, and we need to shift things,  I will call you on the telephone number you have provided instead.

Cancellations

At The Suffolk Psychologist, we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. This means that appointments that are not attended or are cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are payable at the normal rate. Please email all cancellations to admin@thesuffolkpsychologist.co.uk.

If I need to cancel at short notice for any reason, Let you know via email as soon as possible. These sessions would naturally not incur a fee. and will be refunded if paid in advance

Fees

Fees are payable to the account detailed below:

To be advised

Payment is required at the time of booking to secure an initial assessment appointment. Subsequent session fees are payable by bank transfer to the above business account 24 hours before each session. I will send you an invoice following the session and can offer receipts for your records if needed.

In cases of unpaid fees, I will send you an email reminder. In the unlikely event of arrears not being settled within 7 days, we may need to pause or end therapy.

I accept privately funded clients and am also registered to provide psychological therapy under insurance policies with various insurers. Please let me know if you’re expecting an insurer to cover the cost of your sessions so we can confirm details before starting our work together

Professional ethics and liability

I offer psychological therapy to individuals and couples over18, as well as to parent-infant dyads where indicated.

I adhere to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics. I will not work outside of my professional competence or training, so if it becomes apparent that I am not the right professional to help you at this time, I will discuss this with you and signpost you to alternative sources of support wherever possible.

I do not work with individuals who are currently accessing mental health support from statutory mental health services (NHS community mental health teams, Early Intervention (EI), psychological therapies services, Crisis Teams, Talking Therapies services), without prior agreement. Please tell me if you are supported by a mental health team, even temporarily, and we can consider whether we should proceed with therapy. If you were to continue meeting with me alongside secondary mental health services, we would need to agree a plan around appropriate information sharing.

I am not able to offer a service to individuals who present with the following difficulties, as for these a multi-disciplinary team approach is recommended. Please contact your GP to discuss support options for any of the difficulties outlined below:

  •  frequent or intense thoughts about suicide
  • self-harm requiring medical attention
  • drug and alcohol difficulties

Please note that I cannot provide an emergency service or between sessions crisis response.

In a medical emergency, call 999.

If you are unsure whether you need urgent help, you should contact your GP surgery or NHS Direct can be contacted 24 hours a day on 111 (Option 2)  or www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk. The Samaritans provide a confidential, non-judgmental listening service for anything that is troubling you, and can be contacted free 24 hours a day on 116 123.

All information you share will be kept confidentially and securely, and will not be shared with others unless required under professional or safeguarding obligations, or as agreed with you in advance.

Please be aware of the following limits to confidentiality:

  • If you share information that causes concern about an individual’s safety or about criminal behaviour, I have a professional obligation to inform statutory services. I would always endeavour to discuss this with you first
